The Q pad MK-85.  If anyone doubted how good a mechanical keyboard could be, this will set them straight.  With Cherry MX Red switches, media keys, USB 2.0 2 port hub, audio jacks, adjustable individually backlit keys and optional WASD orange keys, the MK-85 ticks all the boxes.  With some keyboards we have looked at, the WASD keys have had there own lighting, the MK-85 goes further, by giving a key puller and 4 orange replacement keys, there will be no doubt where the keys are.  The individual back lights come in handy here as the light comes through even on the orange key.  While many will argue that MX Black switches are the best, the weight of the switch can reduce performance.  With lightweight Red switches, the MK-85 delivers both smooth gaming performance without compromising game preference.  The lack of macro keys is something Qpad have remedied via the use of software.  By using different profiles, all the keys on the keyboard can be set to do anything, macros, windows commands and much more.  The small wrist rest adds to the mix giving a nice typing experience.  Overall, after you are done gaming, you want a keyboard that is good to type on, the blue switches offer the best typing experience for most people, which is why, combined with all the other features, such as PS2 and NKRO, makes this our number 1 keyboard.  Priced at around £120, it is one of the more expensive keyboards on the market, but it is feature packed to deliver as much as possible without compromise.  Our number 1 keyboard pick

The MK-80 was a great looking keyboard of that there can be no doubts. The luxurious feel of the keyboard surround and backlit key set put most other keyboards in the shade (literally). However, there were two issues which prevented MK-80 from being our top mechanical keyboard - no macro functionality and the use of Cherry MX Blue keys. Guess what QPAD have gone and done? The MK-85 now has macro capability and has the much better (for gaming at least) Cherry MX red switches. With this in mind I'm going to be true to my word and put the MK-85 in number one spot in the hotly contested mechanical gaming keyboard market. It is a deserved winner of not only our esteemed Platinum award but also gets the rarely given Elite award simply for being the very best there is to offer in this segment, regardless of its high asking price. If the girl from the L’Oreal advert was worth it, then the QPAD MK-85 most certainly is.

When you mix these keys with the ridculously solid build quality of the MK-85, its rubber finish that just makes you want to touch it all the time, and the wonderfully comfortable wrist rest, you end up with a keyboard of the very finest quality. As with most good mechanical keyboards on the market, you’re paying a premium to get that extra quality, but in the case of the MK-85, it’s most certaily a case of ‘you get what you pay for’.

Techpower Up

The QPAD MK-85 has all the right features, and you get to choose what key switches goes in it. The only possible reason not to like it is its quite extreme price of €149.90. This is €30 more than the now elderly MK-80 keyboard which has exactly the same features as the MK-85 just without drivers and a few other minor things. The build quality and finish of the product is still top-notch as you would expect from a company like QPAD, however, even that is still not enough to justify the price. It is good to see a mechanical keyboard that includes some of the everyday convenience features available on pretty much any business keyboard, the inclusion of both USB ports and audio pass-through is definitely a nice touch. With QPAD you get the choice of key mechanism, which is nice. Finally someone is building keyboards that people want instead of just pushing one type of key mechanisms. People have varying needs and preferences when it comes to key mechanisms and it is great to see a product catering to all people who are serious about typing, gaming or both. Personally I prefer the Cherry MX Brown keys, but each his own.

QPAD's build quality and design is definitely at the top of the pack. The MK-85 keyboard succeeds in incorporating a lot of nice to have features and has a good driver suite to boot. Whether the keyboard is worth the asking price depends somewhat on whether you have use for the added features and want a keyboard that has soft-touch finish.

The Last Resort Esports

After some serious testing and in depth reading the MK-85 is an outstanding keyboard. Qpad compacted so many features conveniently whilst keeping high manufacturing standards and functionality. The keyboard performed fantastically throughout all tests and even had a few surprises hidden within. The drivers performed flawlessly and the NKRO technology was very impressive. This is no ordinary keyboard and comes highly recommended from TLR. This reviewer will definitely be on the lookout for future releases of QPAD keyboards. The only direction for this to go is onwards and upwards and with the mastering of USB functionality the sky’s the limit. With all products there are some functionality issues which however simple can still affect the reviewing score. So after everything taken into consideration the QPAD MK-85 gains a 9/10 this is a well deserved score and the future of mechanical keyboards looks very promising!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: My keyboard is not recognized by the computer.
A:  Make sure you have the USB-cord plugged in. Then please try rebooting your system. If this does not resolve the issue, try using the keyboard in a different USB-port and also in another computer. If the problem persists, please contact QPAD Support.

Q: The backlight on my keyboard is not working.
A:  To activate the backlight, hold the “Fn” key and press the “8” key on the Num Pad.
Please contact QPAD Support if this does not resolve the issue.

Q: I cannot enter BIOS using the MK-85 keyboard.
A:  Please try to update to the latest BIOS drivers from the manufacture of your motherboard. If the problem persists, please contact QPAD Support or the support team of your motherboard manufacturer.

Q: My media keys are not working when trying to use them for Spotify/Winamp.
A:  Try to uninstall the QPAD MK-85 software. All your settings and macros are saved in the internal memory of the keyboard. This should resolve the issue. Please contact QPAD Support if you require more detailed instructions.

Q: I spilled something on my keyboard. How do I clean it? Is this covered by the warranty?
A:  Use the key cap remover tool which is included with the keyboard and remove the affected key caps. Clean them using either water or a mild cleaning agent. Let them dry and then attach them again. Self-inflicted accidents such as these are not covered by the manufacture warranty.

Q: How do I attach or remove the wrist pad?
A:  To attach the wrist pad, place the keyboard on a flat surface. Put the wrist pad in the correct position underneath the keyboard and press down on the keyboard, until the plastic hinges lock into place. To remove the wrist pad, turn it gently towards the back end of the keyboard until it’s loose. Please also check the manual for pictures on these procedures.

1. Place the keyboard on top of the wrist rest pins
2. Press on the keyboard above the pins A and B until you snap it into place
3. When removing just bend the wristpad
4. Bend 360 degrees until it snaps of its position

Q: I accidently broke my wrist pad. How can I get a new one?

Q: My spacebar does not work 100% when i press on the left side.
